FRESH FRUIT
On June 30, 2008 Perry Elementary was one of the original 25 Maine schools to be awarded the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for School Year 2009. This USDA funded grant allows for providing free nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables to students as snacks.
The GOALS of the FRESH FRUIT & VEGETABLE PROGRAM (FFVP):
•Create healthier school environments by providing healthier food
choices
•Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience
•Increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption
•Make a difference in children’s diets to impact their present and
future health
FFVP off to a Great Start!
The first two months of the FFVP have been a success. Positive feedback is flowing in from students, parents and staff. Students are eagerly snacking on fresh fruits and vegetables daily and they love them! Hats off to Chef Roland and assistant Kalouha, teachers and staff who are working so hard to make it all happen.
